The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation
Last year, the Royal Children’s Hospital was called on more than 280,000 times to help care for more than 30,000 sick kids from all over Queensland, as well as interstate and overseas. Over half of the children we treat each year come from outside the Brisbane area – we are the primary hospital for all children in Queensland being treated for cancer, and care for the sickest children sent to us from all over the state and beyond.
The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation is working wonders for sick kids by investing in groundbreaking research, leading to faster diagnoses, better treatments and ultimately cures. Our researchers developed the cut down liver transplant technique, now practiced worldwide. Pioneering work by our researchers developed a diagnostic tool for meningococcal virus, that reduced diagnosis time from 3 days to just one hour, saving the lives of children all over the world, as well as reducing the devastating impact on those children affected.
Every year more than 500 Foundation volunteers are working wonders for our little patients and their families, through entertainment and support services in the Royal Children’s Hospital and other health centres across the state.
What is the Swim4Kids?
Swim4Kids is a tag team swimming event. Swimming in a purpose built cage behind Tangalooma’s number one boat, 2011’s swim will start from Brisbane on Friday 22nd October and head out to Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort. Swimmers will enjoy an all inclusive beach party and accommodation at the resort, before gearing up the next morning to swim back to the Breakfast Creek Hotel on 23rd October and a grand finale party.
Each swimmer swims roughly 1 km in the cage, and can take part individually or in a team of three. Before and after their swim, they will enjoy a scenic cruise and hospitality on board Tangalooma’s jet cruiser ferries following the relay – a fantastic day on the water at the height of whale watching season.
Individual swimmers must raise a minimum of $1,500.00.00 for the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation to take part, with teams of three raising a minimum of $3,000.00 collectively.
In its 4th year, this unique event brings together Brisbane’s community and corporate to help work wonders for sick kids. Back again this year, Tangalooma island Resort are ensuring that this is a once in a lifetime adventure.
2011’s event aims to capture at least 150 corporate teams, predominantly 25 – 45 year old Queenslanders. Our participants are proactive with a strong social conscience, health focus and financially savvy.
